Blogging development tip: Make sure your message is heard
Blogging is not entirely about your own blog. It may sound strange but think about it. You write articles on your blog and just stay and wait for visitors? In real life is called socializing. It’s like having a brick and mortar business and you go let people know about your products.
The same thing goes double for blogging. When you blog you try to send out a message – or at least you should send a message. But you have to help people find your message. There are millions of bogs out there with millions of articles being published every day. You really have to fight so your content gets people attention.
And you should be so grateful if one person comes to your blog and reads what you have to say and take the time to also post a comment. I don’t think we realize how great that is: from all the millions of articles out there he/she chose to read yours. Now you should ask yourself: where do I find more people like the one that just visited/commented on my blog.
You can start with the people that place comments on his/hers blog. Usually they’ll have the same interests. Do a search on Google and see what social media websites does that person uses and go connect with him. Reach out. You will start to talk some more on social networks and soon you’ll meet his friends. And this is a start in getting your message heard.
You also have to facilitate the spread of content from your website. There are people kind enough to spread it for you. Usually this happens more and more as your blog increases in authority, number of subscribers and traffic:
1. Have at least one plugin to easy share your content to social websites
2. Have an RSS flux although people move more towards e-mail subscriptions and applications like Google Reader
3. Sync your blog with social media accounts on FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter, MyBlogLog and so on
4. Let people know about your content. Don’t post only that when on Twitter but consider posting a tweet about your latest article a few times in that day: people are not 24/7 on Twitter so you have to do your best in reaching as many as possible.
5. If you use video marketing use TubeMogul so you’ll be able to spread your video content on all websites at once
If you have other suggestions on how you can make your message heard or have any questions let me know in comments bellow.
