Getting followers on Twitter has become the “new thing” on social media. Twitter is the new sensation, the newest cool social media place to hang out and exchange ideas, opinions, articles or just meet with your friends. For many Twitter users the number of follower means power and influence : their links spread so quickly and their questions get so many answers. Post with regularity

As with any other social media tool or website, having a daily presence on Twitter is something that you have to do in order to establish yourself as a power user and as someone that is there to stay. It’s important to develop a daily presence on any social website you are registered for several reasons :

• you’ll be more easy to find in searches
• people will start to recognize you and talk to you more often
• you’ll develop a certain presence on the network and you’ll start participating on different discussions
• if all your actions are directed to add value to the network then you’ll get more followers

Posting regularly is not just about posting everyday. You also have to develop a way to post tweets all day long. By that I’m not saying you’ll have to tweet like crazy : few tweets from time to time is more then enough to get a good presence.

Use niche keywords in your posts

Many times people search on Twitter for different niche keywords in order to get the informations they are after. So using keywords in your tweets becomes essential. That is also the reason I tweet the article’s title because titles are usually full of keywords (or should be). Using this method combined with a daily posting ensures that if someone will search for your niche keywords then you’ll probably appear in searches. And if you also manage to tweet more often then you’ll probably appear on the first page of searches.

I’m constantly looking for new Twitter users that might be in my market niche or just users that tweet interesting things to me. I always start following someone if I consider his/her tweets to be interesting no matter how many followers does that person has. If I can I also offer small tips and answer to their questions about Twitter or my market niche.

Use other social networks to invite people to connect on Twitter

This is a method widely spread that is very efficient if you have other social media accounts especially if you have strong networks on those websites. From time to time I post a new discussion on LinkedIn for example in which I talk about what I blog about and invite people to connect with me on Twitter and all the other social websites that I’m active on.

Use external services like TweetLater and TweetDeck

You can use TweetLater to schedule tweets to be posted automatically but I don’t recommend it. The reason for using TweetLater is because it gives you the ability to set alerts, similar with Google alerts, to see who is talking about your market niche. You can also specify how often do you want to receive these e-mails. Posting and being up to date with what is happening on Twitter or when you receive a new reply or direct message creates the perfect opportunity to use TweetDeck. You can sent messages very easily, automatic short URLs and the possibility to watch twitters as they are posted makes this tool a very effective one – especially if you wanna be a power user.
