How to determine keyword relevancy to a page

Knowing how to choose keywords that are relevant to your website and that could get you relevant web traffic that could result in sales is the most important task that you need to perform before starting developing the content of your website. Keywords have different relevancy relative to your website and sometimes maybe it’s profitable to target even more broader terms because they generate high search volume. What I’m going to explain here is an easy way to determine keyword relevancy for your website.

Choose keyword phrases for the theme of the website

This will probably be the first keywords that you’ll chose. These are the keyword phrases that describe the entire content of the website. The main theme and core around which all the articles and the content gravitates. These terms are more general and usually they are formed by 2 or maximum 3 words. Anything above 3 words, in my opinion, results in a much more targeted keyword that will be better used for an article or the content of a page of your website. Even thou in each article that you’ll write on your website you’ll target different keyword phrases the terms that describe the theme of the website should have a minimum presence on everything that you write. This will be something that will happen anyway because these general keywords are also a part of the vocabulary and the terminology that you’ll use in your articles.

Choose keywords for each article – target your niche

Each article of your website or of your blog should target different keyword phrases. You should have one primary keyword phrase that it should be present in the article’s title also and a maximum of 2 secondary keywords. In all your articles I think you should try to target more specific terms and that means using keyword phrases that have a minimum of 3 words. Adding more keywords to a phrase, creates a much more targeted term. You have to be careful how you expend your phrases because not any complex phrase can generate web traffic. You can use something like this : if someone searches for a keyword phrase that represents something that would make sens with the modifier “how to” then you should go with that. Targeting your niche is a very important thing you should also do : that is because you’ll get quality traffic from your targeted keywords. Even if you target keyword phrases that generate low volume searches if you manage to rank first on those terms then you’ll get potential buyers to your website which is everyone’s dream.

How to check the keyword relevancy for a page

There are two ways in which you can see if a keyword is relevant to your web page. If you know very well your website and this is not you first time when you try to establish the keywords relevancy then you can make an educated judgment and decide how much relevancy a keyword has. But, for many, that method it’s not that easy to use. Another method is to create a set of questions that describe the targeted customer of your website. These questions could be something like : what is customer looking for, what am I offering to solve a problem, what problems could a potential customer have and what solutions he’ll seek, what questions does a client might have and so on. These sets of questions could be very different and you should go into more specific ones depending on your market. Here is a broad set of questions that you can use to determine a keywords relevancy no matter what market you adress. Basically what you do is posing the questions to yourself and trying to find the answers. If the keyword phrase is the answer to these questions then you have a relevant keyword. Who ? What ? Why ? When ? Where ? How ? Who will search for this content ? What they want to do with the content that I provide ? Why should they search for my content ? When they will need the content that I offer ? Where they can use the content that I’m offering ? How they will search for my content ? In all these questions I used “they” as a substitute to the “clients” or “potential clients”. I think that these questions can also help us discover new keywords that are relevant to a certain article.

Conclusion

Keyword relevancy it’s very important for your website because the more relevant the keywords are the more relevant the web traffic will be for your website. So knowing how to determine how relevant a keyword phrase is for an article becomes a very important asset and sometimes it can make the big difference. Just remember the 5 W’s and one H : Who ? What ? Why ? When ? Where ? How ?
