Keyword search
There are two ways in which you can look at the problem : you can write articles and include top keywords in it or you can first find the keywords and write for them. So if you know what are you gonna write about you can use keyword research tools to identify the best keywords for the theme that you write about. But you can also be a keyword “hunter” and look after top stories that people could be interested of. Either way you have to search for keywords and you have to understand that writing for Internet is totally different then writing for a newspaper or a book. The reason for that is because people try to find information on the Internet by searching on Google, Yahoo, Altavista, AOL, MSN and other search engines for specific terms.
When you write about a specific theme and you try to find out the keywords that you are gonna use your options consists in using some keywords search tools or you can first do a quick research by yourself. You can try and see for a specific keyword how many results Google returns, for example. After that you can check to see how many of these results contain the exact match and how many pages are that have the title containing the exact search terms. You can also use a certain hint : when people are searching the Internet for a service they usually use the search terms together with a zone name or an area name or a qualifier. So for start you can rank better on search engine results by targeting the same keywords you want but with a qualifier. It’s usually easier because the number of search results is lower. However you should pay attention and see how many searches the search term with your qualifier gets. Because a search term is not really a search term unless it’s searched on the Internet. This you can easily see by going to Google Keyword External Tool for Adwords here : https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal . Even if you target keywords with a qualifier you should still use the basic keywords because people are gonna look for them and in time with a little hard work and determination you can rank good in search engine results.
On the other hand you can be a “hunter”. You can stay and watch and write about what people are talking at a certain moment. This is the easiest way to write because you can get inspiration from many sources. For example if the Olympics are on people will talk about that. You can also check online versions of big newspapers like : Times, The Guardian, Wallstreet Journal or Reuters. Everything that Oprah or Martha Steward talks about will be of great interest among searches. Also you should check what are the top sells or top rated or the hot news on the biggest online shops like Amazon for example. If a music band comes on the market with a new album write a review on it or post the lyrics. You should also check Google Trends to see what interests people lately.
