Great article.

I'd like to add the clarification that the description meta tag does not actually improve your rank in Google but can make or break your click-through rate.

Per Google, "While accurate meta descriptions can improve clickthrough, they won't impact your ranking within search results. We frequently prefer to display meta descriptions of pages (when available) because it gives users a clear idea of the URL's content. "

It's always good to see the basics put so well.

Take care,
Chris

It is very good idea that titles/description are unique. But I believe the backlinks really do changes on google rankings. I dont know but I only do focus with title and description + backlinks.. thank you for very useful article.

Great article, as always, it's always a good idea to remember the basics. I'm actually sending this to the President of my company, whenever I tell him, "We need to change the URL from /456_990 to /calling-card-to-India" he always puts up a wall and tells me to "focus on other aspects of my job." My job happens to be marketing, which is technically SEO...
