Small Business Web Design Services
There is a market out there, developed around small businesses, which offers different services like web design or SEO or business blogging planing at affordable prices. This market is very targeted, the competition is very tight for getting customers and there is a very thin line between offering quality services and just offering services. Sometimes the words small business are placed near cheap or bad quality. That is why I decided to write this post : even thou all is at a smaller scale doesn’t mean that it’s also bad quality. Of course it’s cheaper then the big solutions but you can’t expect to get it for nothing.
What I have to offer
Your web site needs good web design in the terms of web design 2.0 . This is the thing that is now – this is the present. Everyone has different opinions and ways of describing what 2.0 might mean. For me it only means : Simplicity and Functionality. The design has to look great but it has to be simple : few colors, not overloaded with images and banners, clean (the user has to realize immediately how to locate the information he needs) and above all it has to be consistent. Consistency refers to the fact that no matter on what page you are they all have to look the same in terms of design elements and menu navigation.
Why you need a web site
Rule #1 of the Internet : get a web site. If you want to take advantage of all the Internet has to offer you need to have a web site. Many companies think that it’s enough to have a free e-mail address on Yahoo or Google and to be registered on different web directories. Let me ask this question to this companies :
“Did you made any money from the Internet ? ” If you don’t have a website, I don’t think so. Another very important thing is to realize how important for your image and for your brand a website could be.
Types of web sites
There are two major types : static and dynamic. The main difference between those two is that the static web site you can’t modify it’s content unless you have some knowledge of html, css and/or php. Plus that the modifications are difficult to made since these websites don’t use a theme and any menu modification or adding a new page has to be done on all the existing pages of the website. On the other hand a dynamic web site can be easily updated and modified. You can add new menus or pages and change the content as you want. These kind of websites are also known as content management systems. The easiest to use CMS is WordPress which is a free platform for blogs (that can be modified to look as a normal website would do). There are also more complex CMS like Joomla that need a lot more knowledge to be setup and used.
What are the benefits of having a web site
Even thou I consider the benefits of having a website more then obvious lets get a quick count :
- improve the brand image
- easy to offer customer support
- new ways of communicating with your clients
- a cheap way to advertise your products and services
- easy and efficient to issue press releases
- easy to lunch new products and services
- great way to get feedback from your clients
- get new clients by developing a relation based on trust
What you have to say about it
Now it’s time to decide for yourself : if you are a small business and you didn’t used the Internet yet, then you should take this into consideration. Remember that if you want to make money on the Internet you have to obey Rule #1 : Have a Website. And all you’ll do is for the future : for the kids that these days are more on the Internet then on tv and a few years from now these kids will be tax payers.
What do you think ? Is it worth it ? Or not ?

@Susan/Unique Business Opportunity Hi there Susan. I’m glad that you find this information useful. I hope you’ll stick around and I’ll try to provide content as good as I can.
Well said. It still amazes me that there are businesses out there that do not have websites. When I dig deep and try to find out why I often hear the following
1. A website for my business is a waste of time
2. I can’t afford it
3. Oh I have one, it’s on Go Daddy
4. My franchise does not allow me to have a website
I often shake my head in amazement. A business without a website or with a website that looks like your nephew designed it is such a loss of credibility.
