Toma,

I love how you compared twitter followers to the currency and I understand exactly what you mean by that!

I've been retweeted by some people followed by tens of thousands of people on Twitter but I get more visitors from some people that are followed by just a few hundred.

Toma, you're so right. And Michael J. made the same great point: one evangelist is worth 1000's of followers.
The influencers are the ones you want to build trust with. This makes sense because their followers/friends trust THEM already.

Exactly right! Making a corporate sale means getting about 25 people in the global to trust you. Getting word of mouth means evangelists on the ground spreading the word. One evangelist is worth 1000's of followers.

Great point about getting the on radar of respected, as in trust worthy, powerful people. If they RT it indicates what you say is interesting to someone who has the experience, skills and creds to matter.

The really hard part is to have something useful to say. My experience is that only happens once in a while. So just like working in the real world, if you don't have something to say, be quiet and listen, until you do. Don't keep saying things just for the sake of lots and lots of tweets.

Every tweet either builds trust or destroys trust.

Hi Toma,

An interesting post - thanks for mentioning me. You are correct, that the size of a following on a service like Twitter is NOT always an indicator of influence.
