Social Media Doesn't Get You Money : Your Products Are


How many times you’ve seen articles like “make money with social media” or “how to make money with social media” ? I think I see such an article almost everyday. You must understand something : social media will only get you leads. Social media will only get you potential clients. It’s your job to convince them to buy your products. Don’t expect that social media will do that for you.

Stop thinking that social media will get you money

This article is for all those out there who are thinking that social media will get them money. No matter how wonderful and great you may be the best thing social media will get you is exposure. People will learn about you and what you have to offer. Because of your actions on all the social networks you’ll possibly get leads or potential clients. Thinking that social media will get you money is like saying that going to work everyday get you money. You have to realize that what you do on your job will eventually get you money. I’m sure that by now many of you are wondering : How come ? All those articles about making money with social media ? Well everyone has it’s own opinion. And mine is that your actions on any social network are just a way to attract clients and to market yourself. To close the deal it’s up to you.

Then, why to invest time and effort in building any social network ?

This is actually the interesting part. You’ll not make money directly from any social network but every post you make, every friend that you help or any article that you publish may lead you to your next client. All that you do on any social network will only help define your image and your business and your products and your services to others. Full exposure of everything you are and you do. This is what you need to do if you want people to trust you. Not all social networks allow you to really expose yourself. For example if you are using LinkedIn you’ll only post answers or articles of your own but it’s all about your market. Very different from this social network is Twitter which offers to your network a much more complete image of yourself because Twitter is a social network where you can afford to just chat sometimes besides posting market relating articles. Bottom line is that all you do on social media has only one purpose : to determine people to THINK of using your services.

You are the the only one who can close the deal

While all the social media channels can send you potential clients it’s up to you to close the deal. Social media will only create a certain feeling of trust. The client feels that he can trust you with his problem. In his mind you could be the solution to what he needs. You have to be very careful because this trust is not a strong one and it can dissolve really fast. Any mistake you made or any moment when you show that you are not 100% certain of what you are saying or what you pretend to be and the client is gone. This is the part when you’ll actually see if your products or services and your prices are what the market needs. The client will have the ultimate word and you have to realize that he’s not gonna be merciful. Using social media into your advantage will also allow you to test different products or services before you actually engage a potential client.
