Stick with your blog but do it wisely
Building an authority blog, if you haven’t done it before, it’s not an easy process. The second one it’s going to be a different story because you can use your reputation from your first blog. But let’s stick to our subject. You have no blog but you want to build one and you want to know what it takes to do it, how to do it and most important: how much time do you need before having a well known blog.
There is no precise answer to how much time do you need to leverage your blog but there are some things that you may take into your consideration and that will help you in building a successful blog.
Stick with your blog. Maybe this is the most important thing: to never abandon the ship. Look at some archives of some great blogs that have hundreds of comments now and see where they were a year back or two, or three. Let’s take Chris Brogan which has a very good blog on social media. Here are some facts:
- 2009 – June – from 13 to 114 comments
- 2008 – July – from 22 to 42 comments
- 2007 – July – from 0 to 16 comments
- 2006 – July – from 0 to 8 comments
And he is blogging from 2004. What he made in order to succeed? He stayed with his blog. He kept writing until good things started to happen.
Darren Rowse from Problogger had a slightly different path. Here are some of his stats:
- 2009 June 19 to 92 comments
- 2008 June from 19 to 47 comments
- 2007 June from 3 to 114 comments
- 2006 June from 5 to 51 comments
- 2005 June from 1 to 36 comments
- 2004 the year he started Problogger from 0 to 8 comments
Again, he stayed with his blog, he persisted and look where it is now.
Gary Vaynerchuck started a show about wine on 2006 and for a year and half he didn’t raised to much interest. But look at him now. You see this is what you have to do: learn from these people. If you are passionate about your blog and determined to do it in the end you’ll succeed.
You also have to be wise:
- Always pay attention to SEO
- Go on social websites and tell your story, interact with people, build awareness, build your brand, build trust
- Always create quality content
- Always find time to respond to your e-mails
- Always find time to offer a free advice to whom is asking
- Always keep looking for interesting ways to interact with your online-friends
Let me know about your blogging-history. What do you think it takes to rich the top. I’d like to know in comments bellow.

Good, solid reminders; and interesting stats from two great blogs that show they weren’t overnight successes. Great way to make a point on the importance of persistence.
